Salman Khan in a still from Tiger 3
Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's Diwali release 'Tiger 3' had a massive opening. While it saw a rise in collection on day 2, the film has ever since seen a dip in the collections. Even though the overall collection is impressive it ha snot been on par with the other YRF spy universe films like Pathaan and War. The film's collection also saw a drop in numbers on Wednesday owing to the India vs New Zealand semi final match. Now, Mumbai theatre owner Manoj Desai has also expressed his displeasure at the decline in numbers of the Salman Khan-starrer.
A video of Manoj Desai, Executive Director of G7 multiplex (Gaiety Galaxy) and Maratha Mandir Cinema, expressing his disappointment over Tiger 3's underperformance in his theatres has been doing the rounds on the internet."Bohot ummeed laga ke rakhi thi⦠lekin jab picture full nahi gayi toh main bohot upset hu. Super Duper Hit wali baat nahi rahi hai (I had high expectations but when the film didn't go housefull, I was very upset. There's no such thing as Super Duper Hit)," Manoj said. He also added that post-Sunday the response has not been the same.
Desai also criticised the plot of the film which revolved around RAW Agents led by Salman Khan save Pakistan's Prime Minister and the democracy in the country. He said that such plot will no longer work among the Indian audience. To prove his point he cited the example of India's reaction to Pakistan getting knocked out of the World Cup. He said that people danced on the streets till 4 am in the morning.
Desai further said that Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif's pairing looked good as usual and the cameo by Shah Rukh Khan was also clap worthy. However, he noted that people were leaving the theatres even before the came appearance by Hrithik Roshan as Agent Kabir. The theatre owner said he could not pinpont on what exactly went wrong with the film.

'Tiger 3' opened to Rs 43 crore on opening day and saw a rise in collection on Monday with Rs 58 cr. On day 3, it managed to collect Rs 43.50 crore. However, the film saw over a 50 percent dip in collections on Wednesday, collecting Rs 20.5 cr. Trade analysts feel the India vs New Zealand World cup semi final played a role in the low ticket sale. The film is likely to see a major dip on coming Sunday as well owing to the World cup final between India and Australia.
Set after the events of 'Pathaan', 'Tiger 3' sees Salman's titular spy race against time to save both his family and country. It marks the fifth film in the YRF Spy Universe. The day two collection of the movie has surpassed Shah Rukh Khan-starrer 'Jawan' and Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2', which earned Rs 53.23 crore and Rs 43.08 crore, respectively.
