Sunny Deol-starrer 'Gadar 2' is unstoppable at the box office as it continues to shatter several box office records. And, Independence Day gave the film's collections a further boost. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the long-awaited sequel to the hit 2001 film 'Gadar: Ek Prem Katha' registered its biggest single-day haul yet on Independence Day. The film minted Rs 55.40 crore on August 15.

"#Gadar2 faced capacity issues - not just at single screens, but also at multiplexes - on #IndependenceDay⦠The demand is clearly more than supply in this case, since #OMG2 has taken away a substantial number of screens, shows, footfalls and revenue⦠Just imagine the potential of #Gadar2 if it was a solo release.," Adarsh added. The film's collection now stands at Rs 229 crore in India. Sunny took to Instagram and shared the film's collection poster.

Despite facing tough competition from Sunny Deol's 'Gadar 2', Akshay Kumar-starrer 'OMG 2' has performed well. The film is now set to hit the century at the box office. On Independence Day, it raked in Rs 17. 10 crore. As per trade analyst Taran Adarsh, OMG 2's total collection stands at Rs 73.67 crore at present.

Helmed by Anil Sharma, 'Gadar 2' is a sequel to the hit film which was released in theatres in 2001. In the film. Sunny Deol played the role of Tara, a truck driver, while Ameesha played Sakina in the film that was set during the partition of India in 1947. 'Gadar 2' follows Tara Singh as he ventures across the border in a daring attempt to rescue his son, portrayed by Utkarsh Sharma, who has been captured in Pakistan.
Helmed by Amit Rai, 'OMG 2' also stars Pankaj Tripathi and Yami Gautam in the lead roles. The film was on the radar ever since the makers unveiled the film's posters and teaser. Several reports claimed that the film was put on hold by the censor board as the committee wanted to be extra cautious due to the film's religious theme. But the film was passed by the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The censor board gave an 'A' (Adults Only) certificate to the film.
