Sucharita Gupta on joining hands with The Yellow Diary for a collaborative show

Touted to be a platform that brings regional stars alongside national artistes, Jio Cinema's latest offering, Equals, is in every way a treat for music aficionados. Anahad Foundation's production venture sees folk musicians joining hands with contemporary artistes to bring out a seven-episode jugalbandi that aims to celebrate diversity and harmony.

Folk musician Sucharita Gupta, who collaborated with The Yellow Diary, says, "Because I am from Assam, I consider myself lucky to have been exposed to Thumris, Dadras, and Kajaris. My work with The Yellow Diary is based on one [Thumri]. We made our composition on the spot. I have been part of many collaborations, but they are a talented lot who write and compose poetry."

Asserting that it's imperative that the younger generation "learns about our culture", Gupta celebrates fusion endeavours that give them a peek into their world. Three-time Grammy winner Ricky Kej, Warsi Brothers, Swarathma, Jumma Jogi, Faridkot, and Desraj Lachkani, are part of the documentary.
