Puzzled at rumours of link-up with 'A Gentleman' actress Jacqueline Fernandez, actor Sidharth Malhotra questions why hanging out with co-star is viewed as an anomaly

Ever since the shooting of A Gentleman commenced, rumours about its lead pair - Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez - dating have been doing the rounds. The good-looking actor, having spent five years in the industry, says he's still learning to take such link-ups in his stride.

"Is it something about me? Barring Akshay [Kumar, his co-star in 2015 release Brothers], all my co-actors and I have been items," he quips.

Be it at the film's promotional events or their social outings, the effortless camaraderie between Sidharth Malhotra and Jacqueline Fernandez has been evident, thus further fuelling rumours of them being more than friends.

Point out how buzz suggests that his rumoured girlfriend Alia Bhatt is miffed about this growing friendship and Sidharth Malhotra laments, "It's sad that going out for meals and chilling together has such connotations in this universe. Apparently, comfort between co-stars is suggestive of something more than a good working rapport. People in show business aren't given the leeway to be normal."

Clearly, he's unable to let such insinuations slide off his back. "I've been compelled to be okay with these rumours rather than be upset about them," he says, adding that getting used to the incessant attention on his personal life has been an ongoing process.

Dating rumours aside, Malhotra is glad that the audience has welcomed the fresh jodi with open arms. He feels great on-screen chemistry stems from great friendships, the kind he shares with Fernandez. "You don't need an ice breaker with someone like Jacky, she's always positive. I don't remember her looking stressed, such energy is alluring. What worked for us was the fact that we gelled off camera. We bonded over our common interests. We used to keep talking about our love for horses and one morning, we just went horse riding at the race course."
