Reports are coming in that the historic drama starring Akshay Kumar and produced by Bollywood superstar Salman Khan along with Karan Johar has been shelved. While Akshay signed to play the lead actor, Salman and Karan were to co-produce this lavish take on one of the bravest chapters from the history of the Indian Freedom Movement. Akshay was touted to play Havaldar Ishar Singh, the military commander of 21 Sikh soldiers during British India who, on 12 September 1897, led his army through a deathly battle against thousands of Afghani invaders and thus it came to be known as the 'Battle Of Saragarhi'.

The project announced in January 2017 was to start shooting in mid-2017, but there seems to be no news on that front, which has led to speculations that it is being shelved. Apparently, neither Akshay Kumar nor Salman Khan have any free dates till 2018. Both are neck-deep in assignments. According to a report in Deccan Chronicle a source said, "You won't see any shooting for that film either. The script is not ready. Akshay is now busy with other assignments till the end of 2018. Salman and Karan have also moved on. Meanwhile, Aamir Khan's 'Thugs of Hindostan' is in the same genre and space. So, it looks like Yash Raj has beaten Karan Johar to that. It doesn't look like Battle Of Saragarhi will happen,".

'The Saragarhi' biopic seems to be jinxed as another film on the same topic starring Randeep Hooda has been stuck. Even Ajay Devgn had announced plans to make a film on the same topic, but it doesn't seem like that is going to happen any time soon.
