Sahil Salathia makes fashion statement at NYFW, turns mother’s vintage saree in showstopper cape

Sahil Salathia made a fashion statement at New York Fashion Week as he turned heritage outfits into runway magic by wearing a cape made out of his mother's Banarasi sarees. A Delhi-based designer named Nafisa Rachel William has restored and turned Sahil's mother's sarees into a cape for him to wear at the NYFW.

Excited about the piece, Sahil shares, "Three of my mother's Banarasi sarees have been turned into a massive cape. That's very interesting, and I am psyched up about wearing it today. Nafisa has made those sarees into a cape, restoring an outfit that is 35 years old. That's a wonderful story when you keep your family's tradition alive and carry that vintage value with yourself on a platform like this."

The outfit designed from Sahil's mother's sarees has a long red jacket with a hem with intricate dramatic golden details. While sharing this look on his Instagram, the actor wrote, "‼️‼️‼️PLEASE READ because there is HISTORY attached ‼️‼️‼️‼️ My last appearance at @nyfw had to be something that has immense value to me personally!! @nafisarachelwilliam customized and restored my mom's 35-year-old Banarasi sarees to make this cape that never ends! It will always have so much value for me and my family! Love you, Mom!"
