Rahul Dev Burman, popularly known as R D Burman, was a legendary music director who revolutionized Indian music like no other. It has been 29 years since R D Burman passed away, but his rich musical legacy still continues to captivate music aficionados and inspire budding singers, musicians even today. Fondly known as Pancham Da, R D Burman was a musical genius who had his unique style of composing. The maestro who introduced Indian audience with elements of jazz, rock and funk through his songs, Pancham Da's prowess was not confined to Bollywood only. Apart from Hindi cinema, Pancham Da was also popular for composing music for Bengali, Tamil, Telugu and even Marathi cinema. The only son of music director and singer Sachin Dev Burman, R D Burman have composed musical scores for over 300 plus films. While RD's most of the memorable compositions were sung by iconic singers like Lata Mangeshkar, Kishore Kumar and Mohammed Rafi, his musical collaborations with his wife, Asha Bhonsle cemented Burman's place as revolutionary music composer of Indian cinema. Considered as one of the most iconic duos in the history of Indian music, the classic renditions of Burman and Bhonsle are still looked upon as evergreen hits.
