Priyanka Chopra
Priyanka Chopra is one of the leading global actresses from Bollywood to Hollywood. She has made her name throughout, and the actress, with her acting skills, always wows the audience. Apart from her acting prowess, Priyanka is also known for speaking her heart out on various topics. This time, in an interview, Priyanka had decided to talk about one of the most discussed phenomena of pay parity.
In an interview with India Today during the promotional rounds for Women of My Billion (WOMB), the actor shared that she was surprised to know that her manager wanted to question pay parity. She said, "When my agents told me that we were going to ask for pay parity, even I was surprised. I was like, 'What? No, that doesn't happen in our industry.' And they were like, 'Let's just ask the question.' So, I didn't even know that I had that power. I did not know I could aspire for more because I was desensitized. I was told this is normal."
It was not the first time Priyanka has talked about the issue of pay parity. In an interview with BBC â100 Women' in 2022, while discussing the topic, Priyanka had said, "I've never had pay parity in Bollywood. I would get paid about 10% of the salary of my male co-actor. It's (the pay gap) large, substantially large. And so many women still deal with that. I'm sure I will too if I worked with a male co-actor now in Bollywood."
Directed by Ajitesh Sharma, Women of My Billion (WOMB) sheds light on the on-ground realities of the many trials encountered by women in India, with each one of the million steps that brought Srishti closer to her destination, dedicated to empowering women, and giving them the courage to triumph against all odds. Women of My Billion has premiered exclusively on Prime Video in India on May 3, 2024.
