Classic with a twist perhaps best describes the work of Indian fashion veterans Abu Jani and Sandeep Khosla. A maximal nod to elegance that reassuringly beckons the past, but with some funkiness around the edges that salutes our weird present.

This gift for directness extends to their own sartorial choices as well. Their individual style appears to be playful and a bit theatrical (and they can be), while also is clearly mindful of the vagaries of their chosen business.

At a fashion show organised by the eponymous brand on Sunday evening in the city, its main players turned up in their personal best. Jani's love for black and bling and all-things animal print complemented his partner's bandhini shirt delivering a prosaic warning: Please do not touch. Khosla is practicing caution on account of a broken shoulder.
