Censor Board chief Pahlah Nihalani is a self-proclaimed 'moral police' and 'thekedaar' of Indian culture and also suffers from the incurable foot-in-the-mouth disease

Pahlaj Nihalani

Pahlaj Nihalani, who took the reigns over from Leela Samson as the Censor Board chief has been perhaps, the most controversial chief ever.
Pahlaj Nihalan is a self-acclaimed supporter of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and moral police, as well. He has been known to make comments on people's personal lives to choices and that reflects why he treats the Censor Board as his fiefdom. His views are 'sanskari' and even a little bit of progressive dialogues or scenes in films, make him squirm. He has unfairly banned scenes and dialogues in films, which he claimed were 'indecent' and 'not in good taste', but the man also suffers from incorrigible foot-in-the-mouth disease. Here are some instances:

Pahlaj Nihalani has chosen a title 'Sanskari' for his next film - When quizzed about it he said, it is the need of the hour as off late people were making fun of our traditional values. "I chose that title because it is our tradition, it is our hero. It is important for our characters (in the film) to be sanskari. Today people are roaming everywhere and have forgotten their values... Our life, from birth to death, revolves around sanskars (values) and traditions. It is the need of the hour. People have made a joke about our traditions and that is sad." We must add here that Nihalani, has previously produced films such as 'Shola Aur Shabnam', 'Aankhen' and 'Andaz'.

Pahlaj Nihalani asked the makers of 'Phillauri' to mute 'Hanuman Chalisa', because the ghost doesn't go away and as per beliefs, they are supposed to ‘run away' after listening to the 'Hanuman Chalisa'.

Pahlaj Nihalani supported the board's decision to give an 'A' certification to the film 'Phullu' because it discussed the issue of menstruation in rural India and according to him, 'menstruation' is an adult subject and can't be discussed openly. Also he said he had a problem with the fact that the actor Sharib Hashmi was shown lying on a sanitary pad in the poster.

Recently, the Shah Rukh Khan and Anushka Sharma starrer film 'Jab Harry Met Sejal' had to bear the brunt of Nihalani's moral policing when he asked the makers to remove the word 'intercourse' from the film.

Nihalani even refused to certify the film 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' because it was too 'women oriented' for the masses. The Central Board of Film Certification refused to certify the film, stating, "The story is lady oriented, their fantasy above life. There are contanious (sic) sexual scenes, abusive words, audio pornography and a bit sensitive touch about one particular section of society."

Nihalani, also had a problem with the bare butt of Ryan Reynolds in the trailer of the film 'Deadpool 2' and he felt it had no place in the story of the film nor was it relevant. He, further went and said that he didn't find it funny that Deadpool lies on the stomach of a dead man and eats ice-cream.

Well, Nihalani Ji, we suggest you see more of superhero films.
