'Ragini MMS 2' is not yawn-inducing but quite entertaining. A shoddily-made film that could have been better if it hadn't followed same old horror film formula. More of a horror-comedy than a horror-thriller

If a horror movie is supposed to scare the living daylights out of you, then 'Ragini MMS 2' is not really the one. With its soft spot for cinematic clichés, it qualifies as a fairly well-made comedy and an unintentional one at that.

Entertainment-wise, it keeps you in your seat; there's much to see but hardly anything to be in awe of. It's ultimately more of a horror-comedy instead of a horror-thriller.

'Ragini MMS 2'

Touted as a sequel to 'Ragini MMS' (2011), the film revolves around the making of another film. There's a plot inside a plot, and the back-story of a troubled (and troubling) spirit is revealed. This is a been-there-done-that tale of a haunted haveli (bungalow) with a chudail (female ghost) sporting terrible make-up. On the other hand, the female protagonist does everything she has been advised not to do - to begin with, she agrees to stay on in this haunted place. Of course, she walks around with barely any clothing, and for no good reason.

Writing-wise, the lack of imagination is evident in every other sequence. Dialogues vary from catchy to downright bawdy. The Marathi dialogues mouthed by the ghost are also out of place. However, the background score deserves a mention for building up the tempo.

In terms of performance, the less we say about Sunny Leone, the better it is. Her choice of scripts makes it obvious that she doesn't wish to stay away from her adult star image anytime soon. The film dwells on titillation as it focuses on her curves rather than her acting chops.

Saahil Prem, who plays Sunny's reticent lover, puts up a decent performance. In comparison, Sandhya Mridul is highly impressive as an awkward starlet. In a similar fashion, Karan Mehra engages you with his portrayal of a flamboyant actor.

Overall, Ragini MMS 2 is not yawn-inducing but quite entertaining. But that doesn't take away from the fact that it's a shoddily-made film that could have been better if it hadn't blindly followed the same old horror film formula.
