Jasleen Royal
After kicking off her debut multi-city tour in Noida on January 12, singer-composer Jasleen Royal serenaded fans in the city last week. The singer, 26, had kept her desire to head on a tour of this nature on the backburner until she had sufficient songs in her kitty. "Performing live gives me a kick. Travelling with your band is like going on a school trip. Seeing people sing along is the best feeling ever," says Royal, content that she is able to live her dream.
It's only been three weeks since she commenced her three-month-long tour, but Royal has already learnt the ropes of delivering an energetic act. "When you travel from city-to-city over a small stretch of time, you have to derive energy for each new act from the previous one. Also, this time of the year offers great weather across the country, which makes the process enjoyable," says Royal, who will take her tour to Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai and Goa.
The uncertain nature of live gigs, she says, often puts her creativity to test. "I remember, the song Din Shagna Da, which was later used in Phillauri (2017), was made on the spot while I was performing for a wedding in Delhi. I was running out of songs to belt out and had some time for the set to end, so I created this one on the spot."

Royal has just wrapped up composing music for Rani Mukerji starrer Hichki, and the tour, she says, is a welcome break from Bollywood. "I was working on the film's music for a year. The tour is a breather. I enjoy recording in the studio, which helps me create music, and performing live, which helps me disconnect from Bollywood."
