If his music videos are anything to go by, he is as comfortable in front of the camera as he is behind the mic. So, it doesn't come as a surprise that Guru Randhawa - the man behind chartbusters Suit suit, Patola and Ban ja tu meri rani - is planning to expand his horizons to acting. The musician is set to make his Hindi film debut with a yet-untitled project backed by Endemol Shine India.

For his first movie, Randhawa has chosen a world that he has known intimately over the past nine years. "The film revolves around the journey of a young musician who comes from nothing and rises to the crests of fortune. Working on it was an instinctive decision," he says. The makers are in the process of zeroing in on a director and the remaining cast before taking the project on floors in the coming months.

Since the lockdown last year, the singer-composer began his transformation in his bid to be camera-ready. "I have been training hard and lost close to 15 kilos." Quiz him about his approach to his new craft, and he says, "I have been playing different roles for my three-minute music videos; now the duration will increase. The [dedication] and effort will remain unchanged. When the project came [my way], I felt confident that I'll be able to put in hard work and [pull it off] after years of acting in music videos. I've shared screen space with Mrunal [Thakur], Nushrratt [Bharuccha] and Nora [Fatehi] in my songs and have learnt so much from them. I'm always looking to learn from other artistes."

A quick look at his Instagram handle and music videos will tell you of the immense popularity he enjoys. As an influential voice among the youth, Randhawa is aware that he needs to choose his roles responsibly. "Every individual is responsible for what s/he is contributing to society. I have been responsible with my music, in terms of using simple and clean lyrics. It has been a conscious effort. It will be the same in my choice of movies too."
