Geeta Basra who recently turned mom to second child Jovan with husband Harbhajan Singh in July, speaks about how life has changed. With Harbhajan away in the UAE for IPL as part of the Kolkata Knight Riders team, Geeta speaks to mid-day.com about being a hands-on mom and her plans for an acting comeback.
How has life changed now that you are a mother of two?
My schedule has totally changed, I have no schedule now rather (laughs). When it was one kid I had a pattern but now inke marzi se hi hamara schedule chalta hai. Whenever Jovan wakes up or he sleeps, when he wants his feed its all according to him. Hinaya has her school and classes but with Jovan I have to go according to his moods. It's tough managing two kids because both need attention and love. There's just one of me and my partner (Harbhajan Singh) isn't around. I'm the mother and I'm the father right now. I'm a hands on mother. Though I have help at home I do everything myself, I massage, I bathe the kids, feed, pretty much everything required. I have my sister-in-law and maasi around, it's always great to have that extra helping hand. It's also important for kids to know family is there for them, it makes a difference.
How did you prepare Hinaya to be the older kid and more responsible one?
She was very excited when I told her I was pregnant, she would ask me daily if it's July yet! Sometimes she still thinks he's a toy, so we have to be careful because she's so young herself. She doesn't realise how delicate he is, but that's just her way of showing love. She's extremely loving, it's great that I don't have to teach her. She's naturally a sensible child.

How did you deal with expecting Jovan during the Covid situation?
I had to be extra cautious because I couldn't be vaccinated and couldn't leave the house, neither could I meet friends. I was pretty much stuck at home since lockdown started, because I was pregnant before that where I had a miscarriage. When I was pregnant Covid was at its peak, now vaccinations have started and cases have dropped. During Hinaya's time, I had aqua-natal classes, pre-natal classes and was very active. This time around I just practiced yoga which I do anyway. I had no pressure to dress up, so that was nice in a way.
When Harbhajan is in town, is he a hands-on father?
He is a great father and very hands-on, so no complaints. He loves being around kids and they are the most special thing in his life.
Are you looking at a comeback in the movies, TV or even a web series?
Right now, Jovan is very small but there is something in the pipeline in the near future, that will come out when the channel is ready to release the news.
