Intricately arranging a piece of music for an orchestral rendition is an art that most composers learn over several years. Furthermore, creating such a piece for a commercial movie also requires a fine understanding of the film music industry. For composer Dhruv Ghanekar, Kangana Ranaut's Dhaakad has provided the platform that he needed to showcase how his 20-year experience in composition has made him adept at both the jobs.
"It is my best work, till date," says the composer, who, apart from creating the score, has also designed three songs for the film. "Factors like the scale of the film, the resources that were available to make this a reality, and the director's vision, which aptly matched [my own], have helped me showcase what I have learnt over the years. I am more comfortable managing projects on a large scale, and recording with orchestras,"says Ghanekar, who sourced artistes from across the globe, among whom, many were his previous collaborators.
"For the film, I have worked with orchestras from Prague, and Budapest, recorded with singers from India, Siberia and Russia, and joined hands with [artistes] based in Atlanta and New York. While I came on-board the project at the onset two years ago, two of the songs that I created were born out of the score, after we finally created it."
