Content has diversified, and multilingual films have become the norm. Hindi movies have often been dubbed in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada. However, the makers of Maidaan - Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios - are now tapping into the Bengali market to increase their audience pool.

The Ajay Devgn and Priyamani-starrer, which was wrapped before Christmas last year, is currently in post-production. It will be the Golmaal actor's first multilingual film. "Football is gaining prominence in India today as a sport. Besides Goa, Kerala, and Hyderabad, even West Bengal is passionate about football, especially among the youth. To reach a [wider] audience, the makers want to reach out to the youth," informs a source, adding that Kolkata is known as the "hub of Indian football" with two of the biggest teams in the country coming from there - Mohun Bagan and SC East Bengal. Maidaan is a biopic on the late coach-manager of the Indian national football team Syed Abdul Rahim. He is regarded as the architect of modern Indian football.

While the India schedule of the Amit Sharma film is wrapped up, the Badhaai Ho director is busy with the patchwork. "Ajay has completed his shoot including football matches, and the climax that traces the India-South Korea final match of the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta. As and when the COVID-19 situation improves, Amit [and his crew] will fly to Rome, Helsinki, and Melbourne to shoot footage [depicting] international matches for the patchwork," added the source of the film that is set to release on June 3.
