The Cannes Film Festival will kick off its 77th edition on May 14 and run through May 24. With an entry in almost every major section, the festival commences with French musician-filmmaker Quentin Dupieux's "Le Deuxieme Acte" (The Second Act). India will have plenty of action during the 12-day event.
Never before in history have Cannes and its sidebars found space for eight Indian, or India-themed, films. As many as six of these will be in contention for awards. So, when the festival winds down on May 24 and 25, the media contingent from the world's largest film-producing nation might have plenty to write about.
Where to watch the Cannes Film Festival 2024?
The exclusive coverage will be telecasted on France Télévisions in the French Riviera, while it will be internationally broadcasted by Brut. The festival's official YouTube channel will livestream the event, while the red carpet bits will be shared across social media platforms.

Greta Gerwig as head of jury
It was earlier revealed that 'Barbie' director Greta Gerwig will serve as the head of the festival jury. "I love films," Gerwig said in a statement. "I love making them, I love going to them, I love talking about them. As a cinephile, Cannes has always been the pinnacle of what the universal language of movies can be." "Being in a place of vulnerability, in a dark theater filled with strangers, watching a brand-new film is my favorite place to be. I am stunned and thrilled and humbled to be serving as the president of the Cannes Film Festival Jury. I cannot wait to see what journeys are in store for all of us."
Bollywood divas on the red carpet
'Heeramandi' actor Aditi Rao Hydari and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai Bachchan are all set to mark her presence on the red carpet. They will join the film festival as ambassadors of L'Oreal Paris. Sobhita Dhulipala will be seen representing the premium ice cream brand Magnum India. Sobhita said: "Taking my journey with Magnum a notch higher with the Cannes Film Festival is both exciting and symbolic of my relationship with the brand, where we progress alongside creating colourful memories." "This experience allows me to create these moments of pleasure, as this association is a perfect blend of fashion, film, and flavour."
Indian Influencers at Cannes
A series of Indian influencers will be seen sashaying in style on the red carpet. These include RJ Karishma, Ankush Bahuguna, Sanjyot Keer, Niharika NM, and Aastha Shah.
