Last year on March 15, when Alia Bhatt celebrated her 27th birthday, little did she and the world know that it would be followed by a year-long lockdown. Her film Sadak 2, which was slated to release in cinema halls on July 10, 2020, was streamed directly on the OTT. This year, things have begun to perk up. The cinemas have reopened, the theatrical business is finding its feet again, and her line-up of films only gets more promising.
Bhatt collaborates with some of the most efficient and exciting filmmakers for some of the most extravagant films. The list boasts of as many as five names, all promising titles:
1. Gangubai Kathiawadi

Sanjay Leela Bhansali's fetish and fascination for grandeur continues, so does his tales of pain. All his last three films were exquisitely crafted but also steeped in sorrows. The true story of Gangubai, the most dreaded sex worker of the grim world of Kamathipura, is not very much different from the fictional stories the filmmaker has envisioned before. Bhatt plays this character and given how the aforementioned woman was sucked into the world of flesh trade at a very tender age, the casting of this actor seems to be fitting.
2. RRR
SS Rajamouli became the man of the moment and the millennium after the historic success of the Baahubali films. Everyone is impatiently awaiting the arrival of his next opus, RRR. Everything the filmmaker will helm will now be his opus filled with opulence. In RRR, he casts Bhatt as Sita, at least that's what the reports say so far. There has been a flood of period dramas of late, RRR should be able to swim against the tide.
3. Brahmastra
Let's not reduce this ambitious and audacious Superhero-drama to its lead pair's love story in real. There's a lot more in this three-part mythological franchise than Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt coming together for the first time. It also has Amitabh Bachchan, Dimple Kapadia, Mouni Roy, and Nagarjuna. Nobody knows what Ayan Mukerji has created and good thing nobody knows anything about the film. All one can expect is a story that has never been attempted before. The off-screen story can wait!
4. Takht
Another period drama that is in the making is Karan Johar's Takht. The ensemble is terrific- Anil Kapoor, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, and Janhvi Kapoor. The filmmaker has described this piece of work as the Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham of the Mughal Era. Good news or bad? You decide!
5. Darlings
Darlings is a little more precious than all the other films since this is the film that commences Bhatt's journey as a producer in Hindi cinema. Eternal Sunshine Productions is the name she has chosen for her production house to make a dark comedy about a mother and daughter that embark on a crazy, madcap journey. She collaborates with Shah Rukh Khan's Red Chillies. Hope this film sizzles and shines!
