Farhan Akhtar is all set to take the popular Don franchise ahead. 12 years after the release of Shah Rukh Khan and Priyanka Chopra's Don 2, the makers teased a new development with regards to the third installment. According to reports, Shah Rukh will no longer be associated with the franchise. Ranveer Singh is reportedly taking the baton from him. While the official announcement is yet to be issued, Farhan confirmed that a new actor will be entering the world.
In a statement on Instagram, the director-producer wrote, "In 1978, a character created by Salim-Javed and portrayed by Mr. Amitabh Bachchan with effortless elan, captured the imagination of theatregoers across the country. That enigmatic character was Don. In 2006, Don was reimagined and brought to life by Shah Rukh Khan in his own irresistibly charming way. From Don's sardonic wit to his cool but menacing fury, Shah Rukh embodied his persona. As writer & director, I had a great time creating not one but two, 'Don' films with Shah Rukh and both experiences remain very close to my heart."
He further added, "The time has now come to take the legacy of Don forward and joining us in this new interpretation will be an actor whose talent and versatility I have long admired. We hope that you will show him the love you have so graciously and generously shown to Mr Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.
A new era of Don begins in 2025. Watch this space."

Earlier today, Farhan shared a cryptic announcement on social media and hinted at the beginning of a 'New Era'. For the unversed, he directed Don (2006) and Don 2 (2011).
According to a Pinkvilla report, Shah Rukh chose to exit the franchise as he wasn't keen on revisiting the world again. He is willing to do more commercial films that cater to the young audience. Don 3 apparently doesn't fit the bracket of cinema that he is willing to do for the coming few years.
Amitabh Bachchan played Don in 1978 for Chandra Barot's film. The legacy was passed on to Shah Rukh in 2006 and it turned out to be a fruitful decision. The new Don will be unveiled tomorrow.
