Gold marks to be the first association between Akshay Kumar and Excel Entertainment led by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar.
Gold is inspired by true events and is about India's first Olympic medal win as a free nation in the year 1948 at Games of the XIV Olympiad, London. The teaser opens with the monologue, "hum ek pagal Bangali hain'. This Reema Kagti directorial will leave you gasping for more and intrigued as well. The movie talks about Indian hockey team's first gold medal win at the Olympics.

The film is touted to be a sports biopic based on the life of one of the hockey players, who was in the team that won the first Olympic medal for India post Independence in 1948. In the trailer, you will see Akshay, who plays a 'crazy Bengali who loves hockey and undying love for his motherland India'. All he wants is to bring together players to form a team which can guarantee gold at the Olympics. The movie will also see rushes of India's independence and Akshay Kumar's look fits to the T.

Akki plays the coach of the hockey team that goes for gold. Also starring in the film are Mouni Roy, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh, Kunal Kapoor and Sunny Kaushal.
Staying true to the genre of the film, the newly announced film is to release on Independence Day, 2018. Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar under the banner name Excel Entertainment, the film is directed by Reema Kagti and will hit the theatres on 15th August 2018.
