After a lot of back and forth with the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC), Akshay Kumar-starrer 'OMG 2' has finally received the boards approval to release the film in theatres. Reportedly, the Examining Committee (EC), after watching the film, referred the Akshay Kumar starrer to the Revising Committee (RC) since the film had a religious angle and the former didn't want to take any chances. The RC, too, was skeptical to pass the film based on the issue of sex education that it deal with. Considering the recent episodes with 'Adipurush' and 'Oppenheimer's Bhagavad Gita scene, the Committee was not keen on giving the film a go ahead without demanding cuts. However, it turns out that the board has agreed to pass the film with modifications and no cuts.
According to reports in Bollywood Hungama, a source revealed, "The film has been passed by the CBFC but with an âA' certificate. The makers tried their best to get a U/A certificate as they believe that the under-18 crowd should watch their film for its message. However, that would have meant accepting several cuts." The reports state that the team has been suggested audio cuts and no visual cuts.
The censor certificate for the Amit Rai directorial was given on July 31, 11 days before its scheduled theatrical release. The film also stars Yami Gautam and Pankaj Tripathi in pivotal roles.
So far the makers have only dropped the teaser and first song from the film. The teaser shows us how Akshay Kumar as Lord Shiva comes to his devotee Pankaj Tripathi's aide when he gets embroiled in a legal matter. The first song 'Har Har Mahadev' sees Akshay Kumar putting up an energetic performance dressed as Lord Shiva amidst a sea of devotees. As far as Yami Gautam is concerned, she plays a lawyer in the film and the makers have released a poster of her character.

With the CBFC giving their nod, the makers are expected to drop the trailer soon. However, given the short timeline to promote the film, it is likely that the makers may opt to release the film on a later date. As of now, the film will be clashing at the box office with Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 on August 11 taking advantage of the Independence weekend.
