Last December, mid-day had reported that after superstar father Aamir Khan's long-standing romance with the big screen, son Junaid was ready to flirt with acting (Yes, he Khan, Dec 11). Today, the star kid, who has a theatre background, will face the camera for the first time as director Siddharth P Malhotra takes Maharaja, based on the 1862 Maharaj libel case, on floors.
Producer Aditya Chopra, who has previously launched Ranveer Singh, Anushka Sharma and Parineeti Chopra, among others in Bollywood, knows the importance of first impressions only too well. Under his guidance, Junaid has been working on his look and the character over the past five months. "The director and his production design team were setting up the groundwork over the past month. A massive set has been built in Vijay Nagar in Marol where the period drama will be shot," reveals a source.

The movie will reportedly trace how religious leader Jadunathji Brijratanji Maharaj had taken reformer-journalist Karsandas Mulji to court for his "libellous" article, which stated that he had sexual liaisons with women devotees. Junaid is said to portray the role of Mulji. mid-day reached out to Yash Raj Films, which remained unavailable for comment.
