With Haryana becoming the fourth Indian state to ban Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmaavat, there is no respite for the filmmaker despite the Censor Board clearance. Making the film has been a tough call, unlike his earlier attempt with the same subject.

Bhansali had staged Padmavati at the opera house, Theatre du Chatelet, Paris, in 2008. The stage version was based on the opera ballet composed by French sailor-turned-musician Albert Roussel (1869-1923). Padmavati is considered one of Roussel's most important works and was influenced by his visits to India. The cast consisted of mainly French actors and it had fetched rave reviews. Now, that was back in the day.
