There hasn't been a shadow of doubt about Vivek Oberoi's acting skills. In his latest turn as businessman Vikrant Dhawan (replete with his Christian Grey-like fetishes) in 'Inside Edge', the actor has wowed his fans once again. Inspired by the positive response that the web series has garnered, Oberoi is now planning to start his own production house that will create content for the web, TV and big screen.
"After 'Vivegam' [Tamil film with Ajith], I'm taking three months off to set up my production house. I need time to structure the plan and do the paperwork with studios," says Oberoi.
In a country that celebrates cricket with feverish enthusiasm, Inside Edge dared to delve into the murky side of the game. While the series won rave reviews, it did get its fair share of brickbats too. According to buzz, Preity Zinta was miffed that Richa Chadha's character was loosely based on her. This, despite the makers repeatedly clarifying that the characters are not inspired by real-life personalities.
Broach the subject and Oberoi clarifies, "I don't think Preity has seen the show. If she saw it, she'd agree that Richa's character is a fictional one. I watched Richa construct that character from scratch. The thought never crossed my mind. Being an actor and also the owner of a cricket team is the only reference point."
Many also pointed out how the series went overboard in its use of expletives. Oberoi justifies, "I've been a national-level boxer. I can tell you that these things happen."
