Vivek's first emcee gig was a public apology for past mistake
Vivek Oberoi hosted the Stardust Awards on Sunday night at the MMRDA grounds in Bandra. The theme of his act was not humour by forgiveness. In typical Vivek fashion, the actor apologised to the film industry for his past mistakes.
Says a source connected to the show, "Vivek was to recite a 'sorry' poem to the live audience in front of all the people of the film fraternity. But because of a technical glitch, that couldn't happen. Later, that night, the poem was shot especially for the TV telecast on February 6. "
Gag glitched
A source close to Vivek says, "The organisers had a great gag weaved into the script which ran through the entire show. It was a funny way of saying sorry. Vivek feels that the way of attaining true happiness is when you can learn to laugh at yourself.
It's very hard but VO didn't want to go out there and be mean and rude to B-Town. He has been at the receiving end of cruel, hurtful jokes and knows how humiliating it can be. He told the organisers that he'd rather make fun of himself. It was his way of making up to B-Town through a very witty script."
The source adds, "When there was a technical glitch, VO was amazed at the support and love evident in the people present. It was his baptism by fire." He did a super job of entertaining the crowds despite the glitch. He went down the stage with the mike and started asking people silly questions. Since it was his first time compering, the organisers felt he might get flustered but he carried on like a pro."
Vivek adds, "Prior to the show, I was very nervous but I got great support. Especially, my co-host (Mirza). Dia has hosted before and I used to call her guruji during rehearsals. In fact, when she was in Delhi before the show she called me up to ask me what I was wearing. She didn't like my choice so she picked up my outfit from Rohit and Rahul and carried it back for me. It was a perfect fit."
