Vikram Bhatt
Filmmaker Vikram Bhatt is gearing up to launch his own video-on-demand-application, VB - Theatre On The Web. While he has already locked in two shows for the digital platform, the filmmaker is keen that the app serve as a platform for aspiring writers.
We hear, Bhatt is putting together a team that will visit various institutes and colleges in search of budding writers and storytellers. The filmmaker also plans to launch a social media campaign to encourage upcoming scriptwriters to collaborate with him. Bhatt says the idea to crowdsource scripts and stories from the masses germinated from the realisation that the industry "lacks good writers". "Bollywood doesn't need more actors or directors. It is in dire need of good writers. I want to get good writers on board and want to give them a platform to showcase their talent," he says.
He is optimistic that by roping in new talent, the production house will be better equipped to generate content that resonates with the youth. "With VB Theatre, I want to make content for the new-age audience. I think digital medium gives tremendous scope for experimental content. [We can attempt] stories that may otherwise be restricted in a feature film format."
