Why do some married men in Bollywood choose to make solo public appearances and tuck their wives away from the limelight? We give you a lowdown on some less known celebrity spouses

For film personalities, the line between personal and professional often gets blurred. Being public figures, they are constantly under media glare - so are their partners and spouses. But then there are some celebs who have kept their personal life, more specifically their better halves, far from media glare. They are seen making solo appearances at public events as their spouses remain low key. hitlist turns the spotlight on a few such B-Town men and their rarely-spotted wives...
John Abraham
He made a subtle announcement about his marriage with investment banker Priya Runchal on social media early this year. Born and brought up in Los Angeles, Priya is of Indian origin. She has studied law in University of California, Los Angeles (USA) and did her MBA in London. She was working with a leading firm in the Mumbai and is currently in the U.S. pursuing higher studies. Her appearances with John can easily be counted.
Irrfan
His relationship with Sutapa Sikdar blossomed when they were studying at the National School of Drama and they tied the nuptial knot in 1995. They have two children, Babil and Aryan. Sikdar has worked with Irrfan as a dialogue writer for Shabd, Supari, Stars Bestsellers-Alvida, and Khamoshi the Musical. Sikdar recalls how he would demand as many as 11 rewrites from her when he directed episodes of Banegi Apni Baat. "Once he dragged me to a police station in Mumbai to understand procedure," says the missus, who is rarely seen in public.
Rohit Shetty
The filmmaker tied the knot with Maya More, a banker, in 2005 and have a seven-year-old son, Ishaan. Though Rohit had been in the filmmaking business for several years, he became a household name after delivering his first hit with Golmaal in 2006, just a year after his marriage. Maya sure proved lucky for him.
Himesh Reshammiya
The composer-singer-actor was just about 21 years old when he got married to Komal. A homemaker, Komal's world revolves around her celebrity husband and their son. She has always maintained a low profile and was spotted by the media only recently while attending a function at her son's school.
Dibakar Banerjee
His wife, Richa Puranesh is a marketing executive with an FMCG background. The couple lived in Delhi for many years before moving to the filmi city following the success of his directorial debut, Khosla Ka Ghosla. They have a daughter, who is said to have influenced his segment in Bombay Talkies.
Anurag Basu
The director is said to have found love in his boss, Tani while working on a documentary in Guwahati when he saw her savouring a Bengali dish in desi style at a five-star restaurant. Disapproving parents, cancer and countless other obstructions later, they got together and Anurag makes it a point to dedicate all his awards to her. The couple has two daughters, Ishana and Ahana. About Tani, he had once said, "She is the only woman, who has been able to understand and handle me."
Rajkumar Hirani
The filmmaker is married to Manjeet Lamba, a seasoned Air India pilot with 11,000+ flying hours under her belt. Theirs was an arranged match and the couple has a 15-year-old son, Vir.
Vikas Bahl
His better half, Richa Dubey, is an interior decorator. The duo met while working together in an ad agency. Though the director-producer has often mentioned his wife on various occasions, he has seldom been spotted with her. He says that she is extremely creative and a lot of his confidence stems from her. They share a common passion for travelling.
