As the year 2015 comes to a close, here's a complete alphabetical round-up of landmark moments that occured in the world of Bollywood. Read on...
Adira
The reclusive Mr Aditya Chopra and his ravishing Rani added to B town babydom with little Adira.
Bhaijaan
Bhaijaan became Bajrangi, sang the Chicken song, wore the burqa, did adaab, went to Pakistan and earned over Rs 300 crore. Salman Khan ruled on screen as well as off screen when he got acquitted in the 2002 hit and run case. Indeed his fans swear by Bhai laws.
Constipation
Who would have thought that a film about constipation would weave such a beautiful father-daughter tale? In 'Piku', the director- writer team of Shoojit Sircar and Juhi Chaturvedi gave us the definitive film about loving and living with your parents.
Dubsmash
Mall visits, appearance on reality shows, twitter plugs are passé, this year Bollywood discovered Dubsmash with a vengeance. Credit to Sonam Kapoor and the Prem Ratan Dhan Paayo team for kick-starting the trend.
Epic
S.S Rajamouli's Telugu-Tamil bilingual 'Baahubali: The Beginning', redefined epic war sagas in terms of scale and scope. Made on a budget of Rs 250 crore, the film grossed around Rs 600 crore worldwide, with the Hindi dubbed version raking in Rs 100 crore. His in turn made Bollywood sit up and take notice.
FTII
The fight put up by students of FTII against the appointment of Gajendra Chauhan as chairman of the institute led to some
filmmakers returning their National awards in protest made the headlines.
Geeta Dutt
Be it Bombay Velvet's Fifi (Jaata Kahan Hai Deewane) or the beautifully executed moment in 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns' when 'Ja Ja Ja Bewafa' plays, if ever one needed proof that Geeta Dutt is for all seasons and generations, one got it.
Heroines
This was a banner year for the heroines who out stunned the guys with some stellar turns and also rocked the box office. Here's looking at Anushka Sharma in 'NH 10', Deepika Padukone in 'Piku' and 'Bajirao Mastani', Kangana Ranaut in 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns', Priyanka Chopra in 'Bajirao Mastani' and 'Dil Dhadakne Do', Bhumi Pednekar in 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha', Richa Chaddha in 'Masaan', Radhika Apte in 'Badlapur' and Kalki in 'Margarita with a Straw'.
Intolerance
Things got all political, what with protest marches and call for movie bans after Aamir Khan and Shah Rukh Khan's innocent comments on growing intolerance in the country. Anupam Kher and Raveena Tandon seemed most upset.
Jinxed
It might have taken him 12 long years to finally bring his passion project to the big screen, but with 'Bajirao Mastani', Sanjay Leela Bhansali proved to the trade that perseverance can turn a jinx into a hit. The film also proved that nobody does magnum opus like Bhansali.
Khans @50
Aamir, Salman, Shah Rukh turned 50 this year. Let it sink in. Yes, age has happened to the Khans. It won't spare us either.
Love
This year, Bollywood explored love in all its "dysfunctional" forms. There was marital love in 'Dum Laga Ke Haisha'; Bipolar Love in 'Tamasha'; Parental Love in 'Piku', 'Dil Dhadakne Do', 'Titli'; Indo-Pak love in 'Bajrangi Bhaijaan'; Extra marital love in 'Bajirao Mastani'.
Moments That Made The Films
Kangana Ranaut in that pixie wig roaming the streets with a whisky glass in hand; Masaan's balloons floating in the air, the way Deepika clings to Ranbir in Agar Tum Saath Ho, Ranveer Singh's bathing scene in 'Bajirao Mastani', the excellent ensemble of 'Talvar', Titli's words "Aap Suar Ho" to his father, Anushka Sharma lighting up a cigarette before going for the kill - all magic moments.
New Ranbirs
With Varun Dhawan mixing a 'Badlapur' with 'ABCD 2' and 'Dilwale', and Ranveer Singh breaking into the big boy's league with 'Bajirao Mastani', young Bollywood found able challengers to the erstwhile contender Ranbir.
OMG!
Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan set impressive bromance goals after their OMG! Blockbuster appearance on 'Bigg Boss 9'. That it happened in the absence of Baba Siddique was gold, that it was for the most boring season of the reality show was a bore.
Pahlaj Nihalani
The Sanskari Star of the Year. Period.
Quantico
Priyanka Chopra's global ascent with this superhit ABC show made us proud. We also learnt a new word courtesy PeeCee.
Roast
The 'AIB Roast' and all the brouhaha it unleashed underlined that as a nation, we still need to grow a funny bone.
Shahid ki Shaadi
Shahid Kapoor's Shandaar might have tanked but his shaadi was a superhit.
Technical Error
Deepika Padukone's explanation after somewhat snubbing Amitabh Bachchan at Piku's success bash was something new.
Ultimate
Kangana Ranaut gave the ultimate performance in 'Tanu Weds Manu Returns'. She played the double roles of Tanu and Datto as two different actors so well that in one scene, you were forced to take a side. Team Datto Forever.
Velvet
Nobody can blame Anurag Kashyap, Ranbir Kapoor and producers Fox Star Studios if they claim to be allergic to all things (Bombay) Velvet.
WTF
In the middle of a dramatic scene between Peshwa Bajirao and the Nizam of Hyderabad set somewhere in 1700's, the screen scroll reads, "The Tiger Scene Shot Abroad"; Varun Dhawan's statement likening Dilwale to Inception; to think that the year's most famous song hooks are Gerua and Paayo and two MSG: The Messenger Movies in one calendar year made us go-WTF!
X'Mas Clash
The big clash between Dilwale and Bajirao Mastani showed us what happens when Aamir Khan doesn't release a film on Christmas.
Yellow Jacket
The image of Anushka Sharma in that yellow jacket wielding the iron rod on the NH 10 poster became a metaphor for urban rage and the two "Indias" we live in.
Zeroes
Indie Superstars Anurag Kashyap, Vikas Bahl, Dibakar Banerjee got more zeroes in their budget to make their movies but that didn't quite cut it, proving yet again that mainstream is a tough nut to crack.
