Tabu says she's happy the way thing are in her life, feels no need to be like everyone else

The reclusive Tabu has been giving back-to-back interviewsu00a0-- a tall task for the actress who prefers to shun the limelight.

Her latest flick, Toh Baat Pakki releases this week. Seated in the producers' (Tips) office at Khar, she laughs, giggles and wonders aloud what there is to "check out with" her -- she is not doing any other film. Before she gets into yet anotheru00a0 hibernation spell, we ask her...

How long will you take to do another project?
Not for now, at least. But then you never know I may get an offer and if it appeals to me, I take it on. Toh Baat Pakki was the fastest 'Yes' I ever said for a film. Rameshji (producer Ramesh Taurani) had told me long back that he wanted to do a film with me. Last year, he dropped in to narrate the story. And it was an okay immediately. I did not even know who the rest of the cast was. I was only told that Sharman Joshi is in it -- that's all. Considering my track record, all my films have had a diverse cast, so why not in Toh Baat Pakki? I enjoyed working with the youngsters -- Sharman, Vatsal Sheth and Yuvika Chaudhry -- in the film. We had a blast shooting in Ooty.

You are out of sight but not out of mind for filmmakers.
I have been lucky in that sense. My body of work speaks for me. I don't believe that being all over the place or that creating a buzz gets you offers. Those who have something for me, to get in touch with me. I have completed Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai -- it is just a special appearance. Last year, I did two Telugu films but I am not doing anything on that front too.

Why this aversion to the limelight?
This is me. I don't know why people have to compare me with others -- what other actors do or don't do. This is how I want to lead my life. I never harboured any aspirations that I want to be the biggest star. Those who do, have to achieve it -- and stick to it. I am happy with what I do -- and what I don't do.

Your actress sister Farha too prefers an anonymous life?
She does not want to act now at all. She prefers to lead a quiet life and be with her son. He is 13 now. Farha quit within a few years. At least I have survived for so many years. I have been working since I was 16. But there is life beyond work -- I want that other life.

What is that life like?
I have a group of friends who are not related to the entertainment world so I hang out with them. For a while now, I was extremely busy doing up my house in Hyderabad. Now it is complete.

So when will it be a Toh Baat Pakki for you?
Not for now. When it happens everyone will know. Anyway, nothing can be hidden nowadays.

There has always been speculation about you and south star Nagarjuna?
I don't want to say anything on this front.

You are spotted with him. He even accompanied you to Fashion Week?
I can go out with anyone -- an uncle or a 13-year-old. That does not mean anything.

Don't you feel like putting things in the right perspective?
I understand it is part of being an actor. But my personal life is not for the public. If anyone asks me about work, I clarify.

So are will playing the character of a prostitute in film based on Sonagachi, Kolkata's red light area.
Not at all. I don't know who has been creating this news. No one ever approached meu00a0 nor am I doing it.

And were you upset that director Balki did not cast you again in Paa after Cheeni Kam?
Again not at all. Here again, there was a lot of speculation. I played the Big B's love interest. How could I play his mother? Maybe I didn't want to do it. Such stuff always comes out from the perspective of the makers and not of the actors.
