Sridevi in 'Mom'
Even though Ravi Udyawar's Mom may have opened to positive reviews, the box-office collection of the Sridevi-starrer has paled before Hollywood flick, Spider-Man: Homecoming. The Jon Watts-directed project earned Rs 25 crore more than the Indian thriller over the opening weekend, as it attracted viewers across age groups.
Trade expert Amod Mehra tells mid-day, "Spider-Man has garnered around Rs 40 crore, which is a good performance. Mom definitely found tough competition in the Hollywood flick. The latter earned Rs 15 crore on its opening weekend, which is also a decent number at the box-office."

Mehra adds that owing to the high production cost that the Sridevi-starrer, also featuring Nawazuddin Siddiqui, was mounted on, it will have to continue to attract viewers over the week to recover the amount spent. "Word-of-mouth helped to escalate business for Mom on Saturday and Sunday. It will face tougher competition from Jagga Jasoos and War For The Planet Of The Apes next week."

Theatre owners are breathing a sigh of relief as films have set the cash registers ringing, putting an end to the dry spell at the box-office.
Tradesmith Girish Wankhede is certain that both films will earn profits in the long run. "Mom is a content-driven film, which is slowly gaining popularity, while Spider-Man has been loved by kids. Both will sustain through the week and will continue running in the week."
