Doing well

The awards are usually restricted to south actors. Rarely, do Bollywood actors (or even North Indians) receive this trophy. Incidentally Sonu's film Arundhati not only did commercially well but also got him critical acclaim.

Talking about the award he says, "Getting a Nandi award is a huge thing down South. It's one of the most coveted and prestigious awards. In fact, most of the leading South actors dream of winning at least one Nandi award in their lifetime. So when my name was announced, it was a total surprise but I knew that my work was appreciated."

Playing the role of a ghost in the film was one of the most challenging things he has done. "It was excruciatingly painful because the make up took many hours. Also, the film took two years in the making, which is a really long time. The efforts eventually paid off."

Sonu now plans to remake Arundhati in Hindi. "We plan to start the film sometime in January 2010. I had planned to go on floors next month, but since I am beginning the schedule of Dabangg, it will take time. I think our audience will enjoy the remake immensely."

The actor also has another Telugu film Ek Niranjan (Kangna stars while Sonu plays the villain) due for release next week. "It's getting some really good buzz and am excited about its release."
