Sonam Kapoor addressed the issue of gender pay disparity in the film industry by stating that female actors need to collectively take a stand against the concern, instead of pulling each other down. Talking about the tendency of losing out on projects to other actors over monetary offerings, Kapoor said, "I know what my box office numbers are, I know what I deserve... But, there's too much competition. If I say, 'I am not going to do this [for such a small pay],' I am taking a stand. But then, there will be another woman who will say, 'It's okay, I'll do it for this much.' The point is, we need to stick together. That won't happen if you're constantly pulling each other down."

Kapoor stated that only recently, she declined a film over a "bad" offer. "I was offered a project which I was excited about, but the money being paid was bad. I made a call, and said, this is disrespectful. They were shocked. I told them, 'You put me in a position after I've been in the industry for 10 years and delivered the most profitable film, Neerja, only a year ago. So, please tell me why is it that this is what you decide to give me?' I told them to get someone else." Yet, the actor doesn't deny that she has the "privilege" of deciding the kind of films she chooses to do. "I can afford the courage of working in a film like Neerja (2016) or Khoobsurat (2014)."
