He can make you laugh even without uttering a single word. We're not kidding. Sunil Grover, aka the Champu of Panchvi Fail, is all set to star in a soon-to-release India's first-ever silent comedy show, Sab Chup Raho. Ironically he couldn't stop talking about it, when CS caught up with him:
It's a family comedy show, of course, with a few twists here and there, and I play one of the main roles. The first thing that attracted me to Sab Chup Raho was the fact that it obviously wasn't a run-of-the-mill TV entertainer. I felt like I was graduating from Standard VIII to Standard IX. I had new classmates, new instructors and thankfully a new syllabus. Shooting for the show is a lot of fun. There are days when we are so involved in our roles that we greet each other silently. But most of the times, we're silent only in front of the camera. Off it, we're yapping to our hearts content, discussing the scenes, planning our expressions and catching up with each other.
Khan't get better
This show is a step ahead of everything else that I have done so far. Mimicking SRK in Panchvi Fail was an enjoyable experience and gave my career a boost. I can only thank Mr Khan for being such a great entertainer and for creating a job for me. I did my homework on Shahrukh -u00a0 observed his body language, his style ofu00a0 dressing, his manner of speaking et al. Though a part of it was rehearsed, a lot of the mimicry was also instinctive and spontaneous.
When you are copying someone, you have to get into their psyche. Having said that, I feel that there is still an element of you that remains and I find that phenomenon so beautiful. A friend of mine made my day by terming it as Groverisation.
Funny side up
Though I don't boast of having a great sense of humour, I enjoy making people smile. The other day, I came across this proverb outside Mahim Church that read: 'Laughter is the music of the soul.' So if this is true, I want to be a musician. I found the saying very beautiful and meaningful.
I just want to continue entertaining people and connecting with them. My ambition is to enlarge my audience. But I'll announce my future plans gradually. If I were to do that now, you would write me off as being over-ambitious. So all I can say right now is sab chup karo and laugh!
