Viewers hoped for a reunion between filmmaker Nagesh Kukunoor and Shreyas Talpade, but actor says sequel not in works
Given that they have got together to deliver acclaimed outings like Iqbal (2005) and Dor (2006), it's only fitting that moviegoers consistently root for another collaboration between Shreyas Talpade and Nagesh Kukunoor. The actor, it appears, is equally excited to reunite with Kukunoor, but a sequel to Iqbal, he says, will never be explored. "I would love to collaborate with Nagesh again. Some of the best films of my career have been helmed by him. But, Iqbal 2 will not happen," Talpade says.
The actor tells mid-day that at a bash that was held recently to mark the 12th anniversary of the film, both Kukunoor and he were flooded with suggestions to return with part two. "Certain films should be left the way they are. And Nagesh too feels the same. But, if there's something else that he works on, I would love to be part of it."
The duo, Talpade says, was also going to explore a film based on the life of Kishore Kumar, but dropped the idea after Anurag Basu announced his biopic on the singer with Ranbir Kapoor.
This year has been bleak for Talpade, whose Hindi remake of the successful Marathi outing Poshter Boyz (2014), failed to appease to the masses. The actor however seems to have comprehended the reason behind the debacle. "Given that the Marathi film released only two years ago, a fair chunk of the audience chose against watching it in Hindi again. Maharashtra is the biggest market for our collections, but, most of the Marathi audience decided to wait for the film to hit television. This was the biggest drawback for us, I guess."
