Shamita, on 'being herself' on the Indian version of the show that made her sis famous
Among the oddballs and have-beens who entered the Bigg Boss house last night, is Shamita Shetty. Her elder sister Shilpa Shetty won UK's Celebrity Big Brother, the original format of the reality show in 2007. It proved to be a life-altering experience for her. Hours before entering the house in Lonavla, Shamita spoke about her decision to tread her sister's path, albeit in the desi version of the show...
Are you trying to emulate your sister yet again? First acting and now being a reality show participant like her?
I know there are going to be comparisons. I have braced myself for it. But I am not trying to emulate my sister. I can't be her. What she did was remarkable, but now it is me and I don't know what will happen. I will take each day in the house as it comes.
Is this step to resurrect your career?
It's been a long time since I acted in a film. My last release was Cash in 2007 and I did an item number in Hari Puttar last year. Besides that, I have been off the acting radar completely. But the decision to be in the house was not taken in the light that I may get film offers after this. It was all about timing.
The timing was just perfect for you to be part of Bigg Boss?
Yes, this has come to me at the right time when I'm not doing much. We've floated our production house and are going through scripts. If this had come my way a year back, I'd probably not be ready for it. During the IPL matches earlier this year, I was travelling a lot with Shilpa. But I can say that at this juncture of my life, I am ready to take on this challenge.

What exactly prompted you to take on the challenge?
To discover my real self. I have been part of the Oneness University for a while and now this. I see it as an extension of knowing the true me. As I have watched the earlier seasons, I am familiar with the show. This is the first time that I will be away from my family and friends. In fact, this is a unique experience to me. I consider it as a lifetime opportunity.
Any rules that you will be following during your stay?
Best is not to expect anything and just go with the flow. I know tensions run high but I have not planned anythingu00a0- each day will be a new day.
What tips has Shilpa given you?
Be yourself!
