Rumi Jaffrey, who was to direct the remake of Basu Chatterjee's 1982 film Shaukeen, has opted out of the project.

The buzz is that Abhishek Sharma, who directed Tere Bin Laden, will now helm the film. Tigmanshu Dhulia has also been apparently roped in as one of the writers.

Rati Agnihotri and Mithun Chakraborty starred in the original 'Shaukeen' (1982)

The film features Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal and Annu Kapoor along with Akshay Kumar and Nargis Fakhri.

Confirms Jaffrey, "I am not directing the film as the shoot schedule was pushed back twice. It is now clashing with another project that I had committed to earlier.

Shaukeen was supposed to start and finish this year, but the combination dates of the actors was proving to be an issue leading to the postponement."

When asked if he was taking over the project, Sharma replied via SMS, "Under talks."u00a0
