India's top rapper, Badshah, reveals he may soon be seen in a different avatar - as actor
Badshah
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say he is currently ruling the music scene in India. With The Humma Song (OK Jaanu) and Tamma Tamma Again (Badrinath Ki Dulhania), Badshah has had a smashing start to the year. Soon enough, the rapper-composer might add another feather to his cap. He tells mid-day a bunch of filmmakers wish to cast him.
Movie time
Does acting interest him, though? "I might give in to the temptation. I am open to cameos and full-fledged roles. Filmmakers, who have approached me, so far, want to cast me as myself; they don't want me to act. I am fine with that, but taking on a part interests me more," says the rapper, who counts several young Bollywood stars among friends. In fact, he has collaborated with actress Sonakshi Sinha for a track on friendship.
What's the best compliment that he has received from his filmi friends? "Last year, I toured the US with Alia (Bhatt), Varun (Dhawan), Katrina (Kaif), Pari (Parineeti Chopra), Sidharth (Malhotra) and Aditya (Roy Kapur). Whenever I performed, they would join me. When I asked them why they did that, they would say they couldn't resist being part of the euphoria that unfolds when I perform. That was a huge compliment. I feel they were too kind. They made me, the junior-most artiste, feel comfortable."
Split personality
Not many might know that the rap king, who is an energy bomb on stage, is a measured, quiet man off it. "I love performing live. But I am the exact opposite in real life. I am normally a quiet person and seldom get excited. But right before getting on stage, something changes. The audience's cheer, and the realisation of being blessed to perform before so many people, gives me a kick," Badshah signs off.
