Choreographer-turned-filmmaker Remo D'Souza is set to dabble with the action genre for the first time and has the third instalment of the commercially successful Race franchise to do justice to.
After having delivered dance and fantasy-based films over his six-year-long directing career, D'Souza will direct leading man Salman Khan in this film, the recce for which will kick-off in Abu Dhabi.
The filmmaker says, "Pre-production work for Race 3 has begun. I leave for a recce in the Gulf today, among other places. Most of the film will be shot abroad. It rolls by November."
Abbas-Mustan
D'Souza will also meet Khan in UAE, where the actor is filming Ali Abbas Zafar's Tiger Zinda Hai. Following the failure of his ambitious superhero film, A Flying Jatt, D'Souza is vying for a commercial success, and understands that filling the shoes of former Race directors Abbas-Mustan is no mean feat.
"I can't be compared to them. They are the baap of all directors. I am taking up this film as a challenge and am eager to go beyond the dance genre. The Race franchise has slick thrills and great music; I am fond of both elements."
As is the case with renowned franchises, speculations surrounding the cast of Race 3 did the rounds as soon as an announcement was made. "Other than Salman, no other cast member has been announced yet. I am aware that a lot of names are being tossed around, but the rumours are not true," says D'Souza, alluding to the involvement of actors like Jacqueline Fernandez, Daisy Shah and Sidharth Malhotra.
He adds that he'll also rope in the contestants of Dance Plus, the dance reality show, he is currently judging.
