Buzz is that the actor has replaced Mr Perfectionist in the first project of Anurag Kashyap's trilogy on erstwhile MumbaiAfter almost three years of waiting to get a nod from Aamir Khan, Anurag Kashyap has passed on his pet project Bombay Velvet to Ranveer Singh.
Interestingly, for Ranveer, the two projects that he has recently bagged, takes him back in time. While Vikramaditya Motwane's film that will also star Sonakshi Sinha is set in the 1950s, Kashyap's Bombay Velvet will feature the 1960s.

While Kashyap is the co-producer on the film directed by Motwane (along with Madhu Mantena and Vikas Behl), he will direct Ranveer in the latter.
A source revealed that Bombay Velvet would give the actor a chance to step into the shoes of a real-life character for the first time. The role apparently will require a substantial amount of time to prepare for.
Says the source, "Bombay Velvet will only start in June 2012. That's how much time Ranveer needs to prepare for his character. Stepping into Aamir Khan's territory is a huge responsibility for Ranveer. He is certainly not taking it lightly."
However another source had quite a different story to tell. "Bombay Velvet was never offered to Aamir. Anurag had a trilogy ofu00a0 'Bombay' films in mind. Out of these he had offered John Abraham Bombay Velvet. Aamir had been offered another part of the trilogy."
When contacted to confirm Ranveer's casting in the film, the actor, Anurag Kashyap and the producers of Bombay Velvet did not respond.
