Ranveer Singh's look as the 'Sultan Allaudin Khilji' in Padmavati is leaked eight hours ahead of stipulated schedule; production house to up security norms, considers filing official complaint

Ranveer Singh in Padmavati

The unveiling of Shahid Kapoor and Deepika Padukone's first looks from the upcoming historical drama, Padmavati garnered much curiosity. Next up was the plan to reveal Ranveer Singh's look as 13th century ruler Allauddin Khilji. But, like with all things concerning Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus, this too is now mired in controversy.

Hours before Singh's look was to be unveiled, the poster was shared across social media a little after midnight on Monday.

Given that Singh's avatar as the anti-hero is, inarguably, dramatic, marking his return in a Bhansali production after his critically acclaimed performance in Bajirao Mastani (2015), it was certain to garner more attention than Padukone and Kapoor's look.

Yesterday, an elated Singh had announced that fans could look forward to the unveiling on Tuesday morning, but, the actor was forced to share the poster at 2 am, right after the leak.

A source tells mid-day, "All hell broke loose after the image was leaked last night. The production house contacted Twitter to pull down the image from as many accounts as possible. Following an internal investigation, the production house will take a call on how future developments must be handled."

Production house Viacom 18's spokesperson tells mid-day, "It's too early to decide our plan of action. Shooting for the film is still underway and Bhansali would prefer to keep his mind on the project. We won't change our promotional strategy, but will be more vigilante. The access to the film's posters and promotional material will be in the hands of a select few. We're sure the anti-piracy cell will extend their support to us."
