This time around, the artiste is in search of a new instrument called the Duduk. "It is a double reed instrument, which creates a fabulous sound but is not easily available. When I next go to Armenia, I will handpick it myself," says Raghav. For the moment, he is excitedly looking forward to going to Cannes, as the Anurag Kashyap film for which he has composed music, has been selected for screening at the prestigious international film festival. CS caught up with Raghav for a chat:
A dream come true
The songs composed for this film are very vibrant. In fact, they can be termed as item numbers (smiles). The selection of the film for the Cannes was a huge surprise, and I am thrilled to be attending the film festival. It will be a moment of pride for me to be amongst people with such great creative intellect. I am looking forward to interacting with everyone there. I enjoy composing for all kinds of films, as with each genre, you get to push your boundaries. Moreover, I have known Anurag (Kashyap) since 10 years from my Delhi days. I enjoyed working with him in Black Friday, and this film was another special one.
The balancing act
I feel that my USP is my ability to play a wide range of instruments. However, everything is interconnected in music. I enjoy all aspects of making a song. From the conception to lyrics, arrangement, composition, recording, singing, playing various instruments and then mixing and mastering completely consumes me. I love it! The challenge is to maintain a balance and not overdo anything. I have to tell myself to play only those instruments that are required. If I keep on adding multiple instruments in all my songs, then I will not have time to breath (smiles).
Technology talk
The only way to stay ahead in this age is by challenging yourself constantly with a variety of sounds and genres. Technology is helping in full form to change and modulate the existing texture, but most modulations have to come from within. In order to do that, I listen to music from various genres and artists and try to challenge myself to sound different every time. My next album has a lot of âReggae' in it. It is new kind of music for Indian listeners, but I hope that people will like it as music lovers today have started appreciating different genres of music.u00a0
