Trouble continues to hover over Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Padmavati. After a string of protests by Rajput organisations and a political party, the makers are now being pressurised to postpone the film's release date for political reasons. Padmavati is slated to hit screens in India on December 1 and in GCC countries on November 30.

A source says, "The assembly elections in Gujarat are on December 9 and 14, and the results will be out on December 18. The police force will be on election duty. Also, the ruling party fears losing support from the right wing groups that are morally opposed to the film. Though an official communication hasn't gone to the producers, they have been intimated that the party wants the film to be delayed."
The makers apparently have a deal with a Hollywood studio for distribution, which makes it difficult for them to take the call alone. The insider adds that they are trying to release the movie as scheduled.
Shaina NC, the spokesperson of BJP, defends Padmavati, saying, "Don't jump the gun without watching the film. If there's anything objectionable, feel free to protest."
