Bhandarkar wants Kareena starrer to be titled Mahee, but rights are with friend turned foe Gowariker
Madhur Bhandarkar was excited when he hit upon Mahee as the title for his next film, starring Kareena Kapoor. But that excitement did not last long when he was told that the rights to the title Mahee were with Ashutosh Gowariker.
Madhur and Ashutosh had been on good terms till last year, when Priyanka Chopra beat Aishwarya Rai Bachchan for the Best Actress Award at an awards function. Ashutosh had then publicly claimed that Aishwarya, who had been nominated for his film Jodha Akbar, deserved it more than Priyanka, who had won it for Madhur's Fashion. The statement had hurt Madhur and the relationship between the two directors has been strained since then. So though Madhur would have preferred the title of his film to be Mahee and not Heroine, as he had originally planned, he will have to think of something else, as there is no way he can ask Ashutosh to transfer the rights to him.
Meanwhile, contrary to speculation, Madhur's film is based on the legendary actresses of Bollywood and not on Marilyn Monroe.
