Artist M F Hussain, currently exiled in Dubai, has found company in son Owais. His filmmaker beta has almost wrapped up his first independent feature film starring Sonal Chauhan and Anurag Sinha and has taken all his unedited footage there. The younger Husain is now editing his film in voluntary exile.
There for each other
Speaking from Dubai, Owais who has rarely seen eye to eye with his dad (they're both painters and filmmakers) says, "I'm not exactly here to be with my father. He's travelling out of Dubai quite a lot. But yes, we're there for one another."
In fact, Owais says he has made the desert emirate his home. "I have not been to Mumbai for months. My wife and I have a home here in Dubai."
The unconventional move of taking his entire footage of his first feature film to Dubai for editing is a sure sign of a father-son reunion. Owais is expected back in Mumbai in November with the edited footage of the film, tentatively titled Punjab 69. He plans to complete the flick in time for Berlin film festival in February 2010.
Owais had given up painting after a hand injury during the shooting of his film in Punjab. "But now my hand is able to move properly and I can paint again."
Meanwhile, the actors from the yet-untitled film back home are waiting in Mumbai to complete their work.
