The music scene in Los Angeles is incredible. I'm still in awe that I live there," says LA-based Mumbai girl Natania Lalwani. "In this big sea, you have to really be on your game, create something every single day, hustle and stay driven even when it's hard."
Lalwani knows what she is talking about. Perhaps, that's why she has managed to carve a niche for herself in LA as well as in India. Currently working with labels like Warner Bros, and writing at the legendary Capitol Studios with her partner Asha Madhukar (the duo is referred to as Hits And Giggles), her music in the last year had also been placed on shows like The X Factor and Late Night With Seth Meyers.
Back in India, she has just launched her third single, Prisoner, following the success of Cherry Love and Box You Up in 2015. It's a different outing for the songwriter, who has moved from her frothy, acoustic sound to a darker, dance music vibe. "I think, personally, my sound always stays pop, but it really comes down to my emotions at the time I'm creating."
If you listen to Prisoner, you are struck by the inspirational lyrics that may be considered rare for a 24-year-old. "The song is about being a prisoner in your own mind and body." Right now, she is busy planning 2017. "I recently did a session with the talented Ash King and Nikhil Paul George. So I am excited to explore new avenues here. Maybe, I will be dipping my toes into Bollywood."
