Katrina Kaif may have been Govinda's 'Partner' in David Dhawan's comedy, but she did not want to be his Life Partner in Rumi Jaffrey's forthcoming film, produced by Abbas-Mustan.
Katrina Kaif may have been Govinda's 'Partner' in David Dhawan's comedy, but she did not want to be his Life Partner in Rumi Jaffrey's forthcoming film, produced by Abbas-Mustan.
It is learnt that the makers were extremely keen to have Katrina in a cameo opposite Govinda. The film has Fardeen Khan-Genelia D'Souza and Tushar Kapoor -Prachi Desai as the couples. As there was no actress with Chi Chi, they wanted to rope in Kat to add to the film's USP.
UnavailableSays a source, "She was approached and they waited for Kat for long who cited other commitments for her unavailability. As she had worked with Abbas-Mustan in Race, the duo wanted her to be a part of their production debut as well. But there was no reply from her and with the film's release date set in August, they could not wait any longer."
As a result, Amrita Rao was approached for the role. Over the weekend, she shot for it at Filmistan Studios.
Can't waitConfirms Rumi Jaffrey, "Yes, Katrina did figure in our plans. But now that she is in London, we could not hold on for her any longer. If we had to wait for Katrina, it would involve postponing the release. This would mean that Life Partner would be pushed back considerably and perhaps not even be out in 2009."
He adds, "The multiplex strike delayed everything and now that the release dates of the films have been fixed, we did not want to postpone Life Partner any further."
It was Amrita's sexy makeover in Neeraj Vora's Short Kut The Con Is On that fetched her the cameo. Says Rumi, "Amrita features in several scenes as well as a song with Govinda."
