Javed Akhtar to turn director

Lyricist and writer Javed Akhtar is ready to turn director. He has decided to start shooting his maiden directorial venture in 2011. Of course, details such as story and cast are yet to be decided.

Meanwhile, Javed was awarded an honorary doctorate by the University Of Pondicherry earlier this month. Shabana Azmi couldn't be with her husband as she has fractured her leg and cannot travel. Javed, however, says he still feels the same way he did before he got the doctorate. He is cutting down on his Bollywood assignments so that he can concentrate on his other activities, such as his political career. Javed was recently inducted into the Rajya Sabha and he is busy preparing his first speech in Parliament.

The couple's longtime friend and politician Farouq Abdullah was also given a doctorate.
