The Movies I Loved Growing Up
The Aladin actress picks her flicks...
THE 10 COMMANDMENTS: Growing up in a convent school with church-going parents, I was very interested in the teachings of the Bible. I've probably watched the film over 10 times in my growing up days. I loved learning how Christianity began and the movie transports you to the times of Moses and Jesus.
ALICE IN WONDERLAND: My all-time favourite cartoon growing up (Aladin comes close to first too) I loved all Walt Disney cartoons but there was something about Alice and all the strange characters and incidents she experienced. My brothers and sisters used to sing along all the time especially the 'Unbirthday Song' by the Mad Hatter and the rabbits' 'I'm late I'm late' song. We always used to try and guess what inspired the writer with every character and incident, the sheesha smoking caterpillar really made us wonder....
FORREST GUMP: This movie my family always watched together. It was funny, inspirational and innocent. We loved doing Forest's voice 'Run Forrest Run' and the phrase 'Momma always said life's like a box of chocolates, you never know what you're gonna get'. Forrest Gump was like a figure of goodness that always prevailed in the end. It still makes me cry and laugh and always takes me back to my childhood.u00a0

REQUIEM FOR A DREAM: One of my favourite dark movies as a teenager it was an important film for me growing up because it was a film about consequence at a time when peer pressure was at its highest. The soundtrack was outstanding as well. My brother and I always used to watch this film together. We were so taken by the movie we even went out and bought the book... wasn't as good as the movie though!

DEVDAS: It was my first Hindi movie growing up. We always had Hindi movies playing in our home because of my father but Devdas was the first one I sat down to watch without even understanding a word of it. The costumes and story fascinated me so much I learnt all the words to the songs just by playing the movie over and over again till I got it... it was such a treat to watch...
