Parineeti Chopra locked as the female lead in 'Kesari'.
Parineeti Chopra has been signed to play the female lead in Akshay Kumar's 'Kesari'. The official announcement of this news was made by the film's producer, Karan Johar. He took to his Twitter account and wrote, "The lead actress in #KESARI is ........PARINEETI CHOPRA! @ParineetiChopra (sic)."

Reportedly, Parineeti Chopra will be seen essaying the character of Akshay Kumar's wife in the film. Earlier, there were speculations of Katrina Kaif playing this role. However, it was later reported that Katrina backed out of the film considering Salman Khan's withdrawal as one of the film's producers. This will be Parineeti Chopra's second outing with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions after 'Hasee Toh Phasee' opposite Sidharth Malhotra.
On Friday, Akshay Kumar had taken to his Twitter account to announce the commencement of 'Kesari'. He had written, "Feeling nothing but immense pride and gratitude while sharing this. Beginning my 2018 with #KESARI, my most ambitious film and a lot of passion. Need your best wishes as always (sic)."
At one of the press interactions, when Akshay was asked about Salman backing out from the film, he said, "Yes, we couldn't do it. I am making the film with Karan Johar and that's it."
'Kesari' is based on 1857 Battle of Saragarhi between Sikh soldiers of the British Indian army and Pashtun Orakzai tribesmen.
