He's not just a specialist in onscreen romances, but a self-proclaimed expert on relationships too. Unlike most men, he's mastered the art of giving in and is really looking forward to his impending marriage to long-time girlfriend Avantika early 2011.
Love actually
I think in any relationship, it is very important to have an understanding of your boundaries and to know that there will be times when you'll have to compromise.
That's the only way that a relationship can tick. But if you start getting consumed by the negatives of your partner to the extent that your love for him or her pales, you're heading for trouble.
At the end of the day, none of us are perfect. Even I've had several girlfriends in the past who seemed really important then, but now as I look back, I know that it never was mature love.
Avantika (Malik) and I have been seeing each other for eight long years and have matured together. I don't think that you'll find a more committed boyfriend than me (laughs).
Knot easy
The great part about our relationship is that we both love films. Yes, we do have fights and arguments like any other couple, but that's when I follow my own tried-and-tested formulau00a0-- I cite my case and if she doesn't agree to it in the first 10 minutes, then I know that I never will.
So then, I just back off. As for my wedding, I might have cold feet when the wedding date starts drawing near, but as of now I'm too busy to even think about it. But frankly, I'm not commitment phobic, so I'm actually looking forward to tying the knot.
Filmy family
All said and done, Avantika has been very supportive of my film career and I think that I am really fortunate to have such a special girlfriend and family. They're not the sort who will praise me for my work just to make me feel happy. In fact, they're quite critical.
Even my uncle (Aamir Khan) isn't someone who will give me tips on acting. He's more likely to tell me to go figure it out myself, and I appreciate that. Contrary to what people say, my uncle hasn't groomed me to become like him.
But I have learnt integrity and honesty by watching him and from my parent of course. In slam books, one is usually asked: What's your greatest wish? I've never been able to answer that one because I think my life can't get any better. I have a great family, a super girlfriend, a fantastic job, and a substantial bank account!
